The Making Of ‘Kuih Manja’ Or Pampered Snack in Kota Bharu

Okay, I know I had never blogged about food before, and never planned to be a food blogger. But I just want to share this video of a street hawker selling ‘Kuih Manja’ (pampered snack?) near Pasar Merbau wet market in Kota Bharu, Kelantan (east coast state of peninsular Malaysia). There were two reasons why I stopped at the ‘stall’ for almost half an hour just to watch the hawker prepare the snack:

  • 1. I’d never found and taste this snack before. So I assume it is not one of the traditional and popular Kelantan snacks like Akok, Jala Mas, Buah Tanjung etc.
  • 2. Watching the hawker prepares the snack in a super-fast way is kinda show by itself. Just watch the video and see how he did it step-by-step

So how about the taste? Sweet and fluffy. The skin felt like crepe, and I guess the fillings is made from orange-colored custard. I could be wrong here, but Kuih Manja is a simple local snack where you can just eat in one-bite. It could become one of favorite local desserts. I’m not sure whether Kuih Manja is also available in other parts of Malaysia. If you can find it elsewhere, please share in the comments below.
