Apparently, the Pinoys team Richard Hardin and Richard Herrera, fondly called ‘The Riches’ were US100,000 richer by winning The Amazing Race Asia Season 4 (TARA4). The finale was telecast last night on Malaysia’s AXN Channel 701. This is the first time a team from Philippines won the race. The previous editions have been won by teams from Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Congrats to The Riches! Even though they’re not the early favorite to win this edition, they’ve beaten all the odds and obstacles to win the most amazing competition in Asia.
I have been watching the AXN’s TARA4 ever since they started the race. I never missed all the episodes aired every Thursday and it’s just one of a few TV programs that I watched. So for this finale, I was expecting an episode full of drama, heart pulsating challenges, tough roadblocks, confusing de-tours, a mind boggling puzzles, and high speed chase to the finish line.
Instead, it was a dull ending to the whole 10 previous great episodes of the race. With 10 hours separating the 1st place (Hussein & Natasha) and the 3rd place (Claire & Michelle), the final race was set for a slow start. Claire & Michelle were just unoptimistic about winning the race and it set the tone for their race patterns until they see Hussein & Natasha penalised at Marina Bay Sands challenge. But it was too late to spice up the boring finale.
The challenges presented in the race were also contributing to the boring finale. Weighing crab meats, wave surfing at Sentosa, doing maths while G-Forcing, finding the classic Rolls Royce and doing a quiz inside a pool hardly are a finale stuffs. The only real challenge is probably the rope walking at the height of 55-storeys iconic Marina Bay Sands Bulding, where Hussein understandably failed to do.
Maybe I was expecting too much, but as a TARA4 fan, the show last night was really an anti-climax. Have you watched it? What do you think? If you haven’t, it will be aired again tonight at 6.10pm(JKT), 7.10pm(SG/MY/TH/PH), 8.10pm(HK), on AXN.
