Maxis Latest Promotion: Trade-in Your Old iPhone

Good news for Malaysian iPhone owners! Now you can trade-in your old iphone with a brand new iphone 3G from Maxis. According to Maxis website, you can get up to RM1050 rebate, different from RM1200 from what I’ve read in newspaper ads on Friday. Hope Maxis can clarify on this.
Let’s assume the newspaper ads number is correct. If you get the maximum RM1200 rebate, you only have to pay RM310 for the new 8GB iphone 3G if you choose iValue1 from iValue Plan (24 months contract), or just RM690 for 16GB version.
This is the latest effort from Maxis to attract new iphone customers. It shows that they are fully aware that there are many iphone users in Malaysia who are still not in their network. There are even some quarters of Maxis users who use iphone but are not subscribing to their long-term contract plan. These are Maxis prepaid subscribers, like me. That’s why they have came out with special iphone promotion for Hotlink customers in recent times. Furthermore, some friends bought the iphone from overseas and choose ‘pay-per-use ‘ 3G charges from Maxis. These are the kind of users that Maxis wants to roped-in with trade-in promo exercise.
Whatever that is, the trade-in promotion is too tempting for me. I am now staring at my old iphone and checking the nearest Maxis store location in my area. Sigh!
update (June 08, 2009): I went to Maxis centre today at Low Yat to check on the promotion details. They valued my old iphone at only RM430. Their justifications are: I don’t have a warranty + it’s a 1st-gen iphone. Fair enough. But I believe I can get at least RM1000 by selling it in the open market.
