Installer for iPhone Will Be Dead + Other iPhone Installer Options

After serving the jailbroken iphone community for so long, even before the official iPhone Appstore was born, the non-official Installer for iPhone will rest in peace. This is a sad news while iphone fraternity is still in the excitement over the launch of iphone 3GS and iphone 3.0 firmware. The news is posted by Ripdev, which was involved in the Installer project. This is what was posted in it’s blog yesterday:

Today, a new iPhone OS, 3.0 has been released. This is obviously a big and long waited for update for all iPhone users. And we believe, it is about time to officially announce that we are discontinuing support of Installer platform for iPhone and iPod touch….

I still remember when I first used my jailbroken iphone. The only best option to find extra free applications to fill-up my iphone screen is via Installer repositories. Like the official iphone AppStore, it has many categories ranges from Games, Utilities, Entertainment, Multimedia and so on but the most interesting is it’s wide selections of iphone tweaks. Tweaks platform like Summerboard and Winterboard are a must-have for all jailbroken iphone owners.

But after a while, Cydia – the other non-official iphone app installer is born and become more popular. Cydia was then made available together with Installer during jailbreaking setup process and it has more clean and intuitive interface. I myself would prefer Cydia over Installer and now rarely use it so I will not be so upset if the Installer is dead (sorry). There are no statement about what will happen to all their app repositories or any message to the app developers.

Ripdev says the Installer support will be discontinued and brought offline on July 1st, 09. So if there is any Installer app that you would like to download, you’d better do it now. However, fear not. When the time comes, you still have other non-official iphone app installer options. Here they are:
