3G Charges for Maxis and Celcom
Still wondering to get yourself an iphone 3G but too curious about the 3G charges? Both Maxis and Celcom offered 3G services in Malaysia. Both telcos offered different packages for their customers. Please refer to the 3G charges for both Maxis and Celcom below (information below are correct at publish time, you are encouraged to contact your own telcos for the latest charges).

There are basically 3 packages offered by Maxis.
The first one is 1MB data package which costs RM5 monthly subscription or subsequent charges at 0.5 sen per kilobytes. The second package is 5MB data which costs RM8 monthly subscription or subsequent charges at 0.5 sen per kilobytes.
For heavy internet users, it’s better to go for ‘unlimited package’ which will cost you RM99. But unlimited package is available to postpaid customers only. If you don’t want to get your hands tied to any packages above, you can go for ‘pay per use’ Maxis 3G service at 1 cent per kilobyte. But before you decide to go for ‘pay per use’ access, please consider that one page of a well-designed website could size as much as 200 kilobytes per page. 200K web page is equivalent to RM2. If you only browse 5 pages of the same size, it could dig out your pocket for RM10! Now don’t tell me that I don’t warn you earlier.
Under it’s postpaid service, Celcom has Unlimited Plan that costs RM99 per month that include data & voice. Strangely, it also has Unlimited data only package that costs higher at RM120 per month. Like Maxis, Celcom also has ‘pay per use’ option with the same cost (1 cent per kilobyte).
For it’s prepaid users, they are given an option to buy a 3G package at RM28 with pre-loaded airtime of RM10. This package is valid for 30 days only though no matter how less you use it.
Subscribing to your telcos 3G service is just the beginning of a process to use 3G to get internet access from your iPhone or other 3G enabled phone. The next process is to register and activate your 3G subscription which will not be discussed in this post.
