The much awaited event of the year – Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) is back in town from 3 - 12 December 2010 and this time, it’s even better and hotter. For this year’s edition, the organizer is adding a greater and relevant values to the event by focusing on green technology and bringing the iconic Hollywood characters – the Transformer’s Bumblebee and the comic hero Batman. I was one of the 28,000 visitors that thronged the exhibition halls on the first day. The organizer is targeting 300,000 visitors for the 10 days event. For the hardcore fans, it’s definitely about the stunning lines of cars and bikes and, pardon me.. the beautiful and ever sexy female models.
I never had planned to visit this event at first, but looking at some of the cars displayed outside already make my body itchy. It’s probably a symptom of automatic reaction of Mens-Cars hormone..haha! Moreover, Transformers is my favorite movie and I don’t want to just stare at the event’s promotional bunting showing Bumblebee pose. That was enough reason to buy the ticket and get inside and snap some photos, with my lousy iPhone camera!
The Entry Fees:
Adult: RM15 (weekdays) or RM20 (weekends)
Children (aged 12 years and below): RM5 (weekdays or weekends)
Family Package (Parents with maximum 5 childrens ages 12 & below: : RM30 per family

The National Cars (Proton & Perodua)
First in the line is our beloved national cars manufacturers – Proton & Perodua. As opposed to everybody’s thoughts, the national cars’ product lines exhibited here are quite impressive. Both Proton and Perodua make their presence felt in this event, showcasing some of their best production and concept cars. The main Proton attractions are their future Pahlawan Series, carrying the names of five legendary Malacca warriors (Tuah, Jebat, Kasturi, Lekir and Lekiu). Here are some of pictures:
Proton Tuah: The concept of this car is sporty saloon - a balance of function and aesthetic. The size is quite big. I wonder whether this is a replacement model for Proton Perdana
Proton Emas - A small and cheeky concept car from Proton.with 3 doors and 4 seaters. It is categorized as a City Car by Proton.

The Hybrids
Eco-friendly & green technology is talk of the town at the moment among car enthusiasts fraternity. There are one hall at Level 4 dedicated for green cars or hybrid that is dominated by hybrids champions such as Toyota and Honda. Take a look:

Honda Insight - this hybrid car had just hit Malaysian market and is priced at RM98,000 incl insurance. That makes it the cheapest hybrid in the market
The Luxuries
I would say that there are not many, or not enough luxury cars showcased here. Most of the luxury cars were brought by NAZA Groups.
What's a motoring event without the famous prancing horse - Ferrari
This is the Maserati GranCabrio. It is probably the most expensive car on display in this event - RM1.35 million! Anyone?

It’s not all about hot cars in this event. That justified the name of ‘motor show’, not a ‘car show’. There are other ‘machines’ being showcased from trucks, mobile offices, big bikes, vehicle accessories and novelty attractions.
Yes, you got it right. This is the Bumblebee car from the famous Hollywood movie Transformers. The name is Chevrolet Camaro SS. Only 10 left-hand drive units available in the country. Interested? On the road price is RM508,999! Go and break your bank now!

The Bumblebee Hoo Haa..
There’s so much talk about Bumblebee’s presence here in this event but it was really a letdown. Yes there are Bumblebee on show, both in car and robot forms, but the robot is standing tall afar from the admiring eyes and cameras. You just can’t get close to it. And the robot just stood there doing nothing. Maybe I was too excited and expecting too much, but it was really an anti-climax. After seeing this, I don’t bother to check out the Batman and his Batmobile anymore.

Feeling Lucky? Participate in a Lucky Draw
What is an event without a lucky draw? KLIMS10 promised a lucky draw for their visitors and the luckiest one could walk away with the great Toyota’s green car – the Toyota Prius hybrid. The other prizes are 2 units of Proton Saga. There are other daily prize draw too. Just fill in the form and attach your entry ticket to get entitled for the draw.
The Verdict
Overall, this is an event not to be missed in Kuala Lumpur. Where else can you see all the great cars, both present and future cars, from big manufacturers in the world? The entry fee is reasonable too. I guess this is probably the most photographed event with most people busy snapping photos than checking out on the cars itself. The hardcore fans may say the motorshow events held in other countries are much bigger in scale and have more cars and makes. Obviously, this is just the 3rd edition after 2003 and 2006 event. It could get better and I already looking forward for the next edition of the show.
